I am going to use wetnotes and charts.. can't afford anything else... must be nice to have the money and resorces to buy a handheld gps. This summer i have to start saving for IVF and donar eggs, because I want a family. My gear is paid for by my SSI check, my SSDI check goes towards bills.

TBH i'd rather have those then a battery operated GPS...cause when the batterys run out and you're not used to using wetnotes & charts then you're pretty much screwed, so it's good to be used to using what you use in the long run.

Smartphones and GPS are only good if you have pre-loaded maps, ideal weather conditions, and good battery life.

For the racers and most day paddlers, they work great. I always carry a chart and study it before I paddle.

Have decided to upgrade my GPS from Garmin 310XT with HR to the Suunto Ambit with HR.
Was a fair bit more expensive but the results i have seen from paddling mates was enough to sell it to me.

My Old Garmin data is logged on Garmin Connect and the Suunto will move to Movescout.

I've taken my Magellan meridian gold gps kayaking a few times, but I use it mostly for snowmobiling & hiking and driving a little.
