The two most common kayak injuries are broken toes and injured shoulders.

Dunno if there's any stats on that but I would guess dehydration and sunburn are much more common in terms of first-aid situations.

May not be stats but as a full time kayak instructor/guide and working at a kayak rental location I would say that is what I deal with commonly. People stubbing toes getting in and out of kayaks or dumping the boat then trying to "swim" out underwater while kicking the boat inside the cockpit are common and can be prevented with a good water shoe NOT FLIP FLOPS. The majority of people with no instruction naturally will paddle using only shoulders and elbows not rotating through the paddle stroke. So at the end of a long day I commonly hear "my shoulders hurt." I would say for this forums purpose that was a good point, not to say yours was not. As for "first-aid situations" your correct also by suggesting that a shoulder injury can't really be helped in the field just babied besides a dislocation, which I've seen 2 times caused by waves. Dehydration and sunburn are common injuries for anyone outside in general. Hypothermia and hyperthermia (sunburn and dehydration first stage) are common outdoor/kayak first aid situations as well. Here is a question for you. In the continental U.S. which state DO YOU THINK reports the most cases of Hypothermia each year? Kevin, Mike and Ryan are not allowed to answer.
