I'm visiting a buddy of mine who lives in Campton Hills (Chicago), Ill.. I'm bringing my Yaks with me, Any cool rivers near the area (up to an hour away) to take a 2nd time paddler? maybe something with a restaurant/bar on it? His wife will be carting us around. Any suggestions would make my planning that much easier & would be appreciated. Mark C.

Out west there you have the Rock and Fox rivers. Both are generally calm paddles. Both run through a myriad of towns and cities, so finding easy launches and lunch shouldn't be hard.

Haha, np. If you're willing to drive in to the city some there's quite a few sections of the Chicago River that are decently scenic. The only thing about that though is that I would suggest wearing a rash guard and spray skirt, it's pretty nasty water.
