I have been using an ultrafire 502-B I got from ebay with 2 batteries and a charger for $21 shipped.
It claims to be 1000 lumens but I can't believe that, although it is super bright. It has a 5 mode switch and it is built pretty solid. I wouldn't think it would be waterproof given that it is a $20 flashlight.

Yeah I highly doubt it is a 1k but I have seen it up against name brand 300 lumen flashlights and it is noticeably brighter.

My surefire g2 was 30 lumens, but it was brighter than most cheaper quality flash lights. I don't understand how it works. I guess it's like computer ram. Higher quality 2 gigs will outperform 4 gigs of crap ram. Eh?

Walkie talkies are the same. I have portable 2 way radios that say 50 mile range (haha, in space!) , but my police radios out range them by 5x, and they aren't listed for more than 4 miles.

The ranges printed on walkie talkie boxes are pretty comical.

I mainly use a generic or energizer brand type headlamps. I have no need for super bright long range flashlight.
